Why does the world need yet another dating site?
This whole thing started after I met someone over eHarmony last year. Our first date was spectacular - moonlight, dancing, butterflies and everything! The second date bombed spectacularly. Being afflicted with the need for situation post-mortems, I couldn't just let it go! And after much thought concluded that while we clearly had great chemistry, we were not compatible in the way we interacted with each other. Which of course, made we wonder: Why had eHarmony’s compatibility-matching system put us together? Were they failing to take into consideration certain fundamental aspects of compatibility?
So I started researching the psychographic assessment techniques employed by various online dating sites. I found, that since the application of psychographic techniques to the pursuit of love was a relatively new field, no real standards existed, and every site had its own home-grown approach. I felt none of their methods was particularly mature or admirable.
To me this was unacceptable. I’m a firm believer that there are no new problems - someone has always been there before. If Google could solve the Internet’s search problem by borrowing age old techniques from academic publishing, then I could find a mature scientific technique for matching couples.
Let’s look at what contributes to a successful match:
Chemistry + Compatibility + Conscious Preferences + X = Happy and Lasting Relationship.
Chemistry is the special attraction that brings a couple together. It results from physical attributes, mannerisms, speech, etc. It's hard to measure but easy to determine.
Compatibility is what sustains a relationship beyond chemistry’s initial spark. Within a couple, compatibility is driven by each person’s psychological makeup, personality, experiences, and interests. This is the area that holds the most promise for prediction.
Conscious Preferences are individual biases, such as “I won’t date anyone younger than me” or “I will only date blondes”. These biases don’t necessarily contribute to a successful relationship, but they’re easy to measure and match – and perhaps because of that, most online dating sites match only on these.
X is the unknown – chance, fate, timing, etc. We can’t predict it and we won’t try to.
Because it’s rare for all these factors to align, the number of people out there with whom you could have a successful long-term relationship is very, very small. Although you can determine chemistry quickly, compatibility takes much longer to determine. Needless to say, finding the perfect mate without any help is hard, and of course, you don’t have the time or patience to play the numbers game and go out with thousands and thousands of people. The approach I chose for this site is to leave the process of determining chemistry to the couple, (while still helping them along with time-saving tools such as video-conferencing) and focus on a superior compatibility-matching technique.
What followed was a lot of research into the various tools and techniques used to assess people in organizational, clinical and pure research settings. Keeping in mind that the key to good matching is good measurement, I eventually narrowed the field down to two unparalleled assessment tools: the FIRO-B® and the CPI 260®. Both the FIRO-B® and CPI 260® assessment systems represent industry gold standards and have been used in organizational, counseling, and clinical settings for decades, helping hundreds of thousands of people in that time.
With the help of these tools, we will create precise profiles for both you and your ideal mate, and we’ll compare thousands of people with both profiles so you’re presented with only the most appropriate matches. It’s all about saving your time and sanity while exponentially increasing your chances of getting into a successful long-term relationship.
Lastly, this is designed to be a "mating" site, not just a dating site. If you’re not looking for a serious relationship and are not prepared put in the effort required so that we can help you find a lasting match, this site is not for you.
Good luck!
